In the modern age, the perceived threat to our children and families seem to be growing. News articles tell stories of terrible things and everyone you meet has and anecdotal story of an awful act. We escort our kids from school to their activities and playdates all the while denying them the freedom of adventure and spontaneity. Some of us remember a time when those summer days seemed to last for ever and we would roam for miles, only going home when our bellies rumbled, or the streetlights came on.
